Prefabricated FRP Penthouse Panels – Design Assist Scope only
Client: Goetz Composites (now Composite Energy Technologies)
Architect: Rafael Vinoly Architects
Project Info
When rafael vinoly architects was selected to design the new Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the united states senate they had a vision for a monolithic penthouse made with 3″ thick FRP panels on LGMF backup walls. Situated on the campus of the university of massachusetts boston, the historic project stands beside the existing john f. kennedy presidential library and museum. The design assist process lead to an amazing solution using 3″ FRP sandwich panels by 3M and a custom hook pin rain-screen attachment to a prefabricated backup wall panel. Ultimately the CM and owner decided to VE the FRP panels to Aluminum Composite so the job was awarded to another local facade subcontractor.
