Project Info

The WALK Bridge Replacement Project in Norwalk, Connecticut, is a major infrastructure initiative led by the Connecticut Department of Transportation to replace the original 1896 four-track movable railroad bridge spanning the Norwalk River along the Metro-North New Haven Line and Northeast Corridor. The new structure features twin vertical lift spans with modern mechanical systems designed to improve reliability, increase navigational clearance, and enhance operational redundancy while maintaining active rail service during construction. As one of the busiest rail crossings in the United States, the bridge supports thousands of daily passenger movements between Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C., making this project critical to regional transportation stability, economic continuity, and long-term infrastructure resilience throughout the Northeast.
